  • 26th Harm Reduction International Conference (HR19)

    Du 28 avril au 1 mai, 2019

For international visitors, this conference will be a unique opportunity to learn about the benefits and lessons learned from Portugal’s progressive approach to drug policy and harm reduction, which included the decriminalisation of the possession and use of all drugs. Since 2001, the country has shown us that decriminalisation partnered with harm reduction can reduce HIV and overdose rates and increase access to vital health and social services. The approach has also highlighted the gaps in this policy-first approach and the need to include people who use drugs in policy making and other decisions about their health and rights.

Held once every two years in a different country around the world, the Harm Reduction International Conference is the only global meeting for knowledge-sharing, networking, and discussion of best practices in the field of harm reduction. The last conference in Montreal in 2017 was attended by more than 1000 delegates from over 70 countries, including medical and policy experts, harm reduction practitioners, campaigners, and people who use drugs.

    Registration now open!

  • 20th Canadian Collaborative Mental Health Care Conference

    Du 10 au 11 mai 2019

The Canadian Collaborative Mental Health Care Conference aims to advance collaborative practice in mental health care in primary care and community settings. Our scope includes intra- and interprofessional collaboration, as well as collaboration with clients and caregivers. We value multiple forms of knowledge and ‘evidence’ including scientific knowledge, pragmatic knowledge of front line healthcare providers and administrators, and experiential knowledge of people using mental health services, and throughout the conference we seek to promote dialogue between these different perspectives.

This year our conference theme addresses concurrent disorders and working collaboratively to enhance care for people living with mental health challenges & addictions . A concurrent disorder is defined as having both a mental health issue and an addiction issue at the same time. Traditionally our health systems have separated mental illness and addiction and therefore two treatment streams have emerged. We now recognize that these two “streams” are intimately tied together and we need to address our clients and families in a holistic way seamlessly collaborating across disciplines, organizations and cultures. North America is facing an opioid crisis and more than ever, we need to work together to understand the underpinnings of concurrent disorders and their impacts on patients, families and communities, create collaborative health care systems and embrace innovation. We invite you to submit an abstract and attend the conference to share the work you and your team have been doing in collaborative care.

  • CCSA's 2019 Issues of Substance conference

    Du 25 au 27 novembre 2019

The Issues of Substance conference will take place at the Westin Ottawa from November 25-27, 2019, as part of National Addictions Awareness Week.

The theme for CCSA's IOS 2019 conference is Evidence and Perspectives, Compassion and Action. Substance use and addiction are serious concerns in Canada. In addition, substance use costs our society an estimated $38 billion per year.

The current landscape in the field of substance use and addiction in Canada is growing more complex. The need for research and action is greater than ever. The challenge of achieving better outcomes and improved wellbeing for all Canadians demands that we unite through sharing our diverse perspectives and collaborating to make a meaningful difference in shaping the future — a future that is defined by a healthier Canadian society where evidence and compassion transform approaches to addressing substance use and addiction.

Join addictions workers, healthcare professionals, researchers, knowledge brokers, and policy and decision makers for presentations and interactive workshops at Canada's premier national conference on substance use and addiction.
